The Belgian Football Association (KBVB) could suspend four players from the domestic top-tier Pro League club competition for betting on matches in the country. According to various media reports, Anderlecht’s Olivier Deschacht, Knowledge Musona of Ostende, Antwerp’s Tuur Dierckx and Laurent Henkinet of Beveren were found to have placed bets on matches involving their own teams. Deschacht had an account that was used to bet on Anderlecht losing three games, including one in which he played 56 minutes, although the defender maintains that his brother placed the bet. Henkinet was released by his club as a result of the revelations. The players face a fine of up to €500 ($532) and a maximum suspension of eight matches, although the KBVB will await the result of an investigation by the Belgian gambling regulator before implementing any sanctions.
