Online gaming is not the saviour of the land-based casino industry

Innovation and smarter use of technology will save the land-based casino industry, says Ian Gosling, COO of Greek casino group Regency Entertainment.

While online gaming has a role to play, Gosling argues that social experience and complementary entertainment will be the key drivers behind brick-and-mortar’s recovery.

That’s not to say the experience won’t change, he adds. After more than a year of social distancing customers are looking for something new, whether that’s new devices or new places to play.

Ultimately he sees the sector’s recovery as a collaborative effort, that’s going to involve more support from industry suppliers - something he says was lacking during the pandemic. “Don’t disappear on us,” he says. “We need you through the rainy days as much as the sunny days.”
