KSA chair Rene Jansen’s advice to operators targeting the Dutch market

Chair of Dutch regulator de Kansspelautoriteit, René Jansen, shares positive news on preparations for the Dutch igaming market's opening on 1 October.

Jansen says the launch has been made possible through public consultations and by looking to other established European markets including Sweden, Malta, Great Britain and Denmark. Jansen advises operators not to seek out the limits on marketing and advertising, and rather to aim for a sensible level of promotion.

Ambitious self-regulation will ensure that players are protected, and negative publicity does not harm the industry. He also stresses that there will be a sufficient legal offering when the market opens, and that those operators who chose not to fully comply should do their best to catch up following the cooling-off period.

Going forward, Jansen’s priorities are the supervision of the legal market through a data-driven approach, and making business extremely difficult for remaining illegal operators through measures such as cutting off payments and traffic.
