Is blockchain the future for gaming?

Two industry figures debate whether blockchain could be transformational for igaming, or is a flash in the pan.

Blockchain is public, transparent and open to everyone, claims Yordy Diaz from SpotGaming, who describes it as a fully democratic network against those run by third parties, like governments.

Tina Thakor-Rankin disagrees with this notion of blockchain as democratic, pointing out that it’s only available to those with access to technology and the expertise.

In this head to head debate, there is further discussion on whether blockchain is susceptible to hacks and attacks. Tina flags 51% attacks - attacks on a blockchain by a group of miners who control more than 50% of the network's mining hash rate - as a key risk.

However, Yordy’s rebuttal points out that hacks happen on the people working on blockchain, not on blockchain itself.
