How slot studios can innovate to better meet customer needs
Slot studios have considered the different ways they can innovate, but almost all innovations are incremental rather than transformational, says G Games’ Helen Walton.
Slot studios have considered the different ways they can innovate, but almost all innovations are incremental rather than transformational, says G Games’ Helen Walton.
She argues that no studio has done disruptive innovation since those that put slots online for the first time. Moving from four reels to five, to multiple ways to win, adds to the experience without overhauling it, she argues.
Gamification, she and Kevin Dale of eGaming Monitor agree, could be that transformational change. The studio that is able to deliver a slot that shifts gameplay from a solo experience to a genuinely multiplayer offering would be particularly disruptive.
Dale argues that this requires input from the wider gaming ecosystem – or even further beyond. Walton concurs, adding that the sector has been too insular when it comes to product development.
