SkillonNet receives Portuguese licence
Portuguese gaming regulator, the Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ) announced that white label casino supplier and operator SkillOnNet has received a licence to offer games of chance in the jurisdiction, via the Bacanaplay.pt domain.
SkillOnNet is authorised to provide slots, blackjack, and French and American roulette through the Portuguese-facing brand.
It is the latest brand to be granted a Portuguese licence, following Bidluck in June and Solverde in September this year.
A legislative bill introduced in March called for additional restrictions to be placed on online gaming in the jurisdiction in response to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, although specific details of the restrictions were not made clear.
The bill cited Spain as another jurisdiction which imposed limits on the activity, after new regulations there saw advertising from operators permitted only between 1am and 5am.
In October, SkillOnNet client Prime Gaming completed the migration of its brands to the supplier’s platform, after previously partnering with Aspire Global. The Cyprus-based operator was quoted to be looking to expand its global footprint through the migration.
The first quarter of 2020 saw gaming revenues in Portugal increase 8.4% to €131.8m (£114.4m/$143.2m), as online gaming revenue soared 47.5% to €69.8m compared to the same period in 2019.
Slightly over half of this total came from online casino, at €35.3m, which grew 56.5% to overtake the revenue from sports betting, which itself grew 39.2% to €34.5m.
